With funding provided by Autism Speaks, we are thrilled to be hosting our first ever camp designed especially for our friends on the Autism Spectrum, or other special needs that prevent them from participating in a standard camp program. During this unique week we will have a 1:1 ratio along with an SLP and Resource Teacher on staff at all times. Campers will participate in all activities alongside our neuro-typical camp, with modifications as needed. Additional materials and quiet spaces will be available to help these campers have their best experience with us. The Autism Speaks funding enables us to provide all this without charging families anything more than our standard camp rate ($199 members/$219 non-members for full day, $100 members/$110 non-members half day).
While this is a unique opportunity, we don't want it to be a one off experience! This week will enable our staff to learn and grow, and develop ways to serve all children through a camp experience in the future. In addition, families that participate will be a valuable resource to our team as the Museum overall looks to develop and grow its offerings for children with special needs.Children and families involved in this camp will be invited to an open house on the evening of May 17, this will include all staff participating in the camp and a sensory night event in the museum, free of charge.
The theme and activities will follow a similar curriculum to our Fossil-Tastic camp:
Calling all budding paleontologists! Come spend the week with us as we get down and dirty with fossils. Includes a visit to Morrill Hall with a planetarium show!
